Flower GirlsPosted by Bill Laing (Pacific Northwest, United States) on 4 November 2009 in People & Portrait and Portfolio. I have a Love/Hate relationship with this shot. Let me deal with the "hate" part first. Technically, it's not well composed or exposed or very sharp and there is an incredible amount of noise. BUT, these little girls are so special. When we first moved to Oregon, we did the tourist thing in Portland, seeing all the de rigueur sights. One of them was the Pittock Mansion, which is a fabulous historic site overlooking downtown Portland with views to Mt. Hood, Mt. St. Helens, etc. It is also a popular place to get married. They have outdoor weddings in the wonderful gardens--very romantic. We were touring the interior of the mansion when the opportunity for this shot presented itself. We were passing through one of the more lavish rooms (there are many lavish rooms in the mansion), when I looked to my left and saw these girls, who were part of a wedding in the garden. They are peering through the massive window at the splendors within. I grabbed a quick shot and then they were gone. I love their innocence and their sense of awe at what they were taking in.
